We’ve all seen someone do something and say to ourselves, ‘that looks easy’. Whether you’re watching skateboarding tricks on YouTube, or professional darts players hitting the bullseye without fail, there might be that small voice inside you that says you could pull it off with ease.
Construction jobs, however, are a different story. While some of them may look easy, they all present their own challenges. But that being said, there are definitely some jobs in construction that require less training, less pressure and less work in general. Here, we ask the professionals at Construction Training International about which construction jobs are the easiest:
Traffic controlling
Traffic controlling is certainly one of the easier, less-pressure jobs in the construction industry.
- What makes it easy
Traffic controllers require minimal training in order to become qualified. Their work is generally low-pressure, consisting of communicating with other controllers, holding signs and, of course, giving drivers their signature finger-wave. - Challenges involved
Like we said, no job comes without its challenges. Traffic controllers accept the challenges of adverse weather conditions, overnight shifts and long periods of standing. But these, of course, are made up for in extra pay.
Dump truck driving
Dump truck driving can be seen as one of the easier tasks in construction.
- What makes it easy
Dump truck drivers have a less-physical job than, for example, riggers, scaffolders and other tradies on the construction site. Instead of conducting physical work, they’re sitting and driving large-scale vehicles.
- Challenges involved
Dump truck drivers carry an increased amount of pressure, especially when it comes to safely dumping their load. Driving a vehicle of such a large size also presents its challenges and pressures, requiring extra safety measures.
Elevating work platform operation
Operating an elevating work platform is another one of the easier jobs on a construction site.
- What makes it easy
Like dump truck driving, operating a EWP is less physically challenging than other jobs on the site. You’re using machinery to complete your task, rather than physical exertion.
- Challenges involved
There’s a certain level of pressure when using an EWP. Heights are of course a factor, and many can feel uneasy when they first start using an EWP.
See what we mean? Even the ‘easier’ jobs on the construction site present their own challenges. But what would work be without challenges? We need to face and welcome challenges in order to gain a sense of reward from our work – that’s what makes work fun.
