Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working in civil construction, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The qualification applies to specialist occupations in Bituminous Surfacing Bridge Construction and Maintenance, Pipe Laying, Road Construction and Maintenance, Road Marking, Tunnel Construction, Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance and Civil Construction general occupations. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

Course Requirements

This course requires you to complete a total of:

15 core units and 5 electives – in total 20 units of competency and is aimed at persons working in or seeking employment in the Civil Industry.

• Duration: Total of 40 days of classes (students have a maximum of 12 months to complete the course).
  • Unit of Competency Training and Assessment: 44 Days
  • High Risk Work Licence Assessments: 8 Days
• Pre- Learning: Students are required to undertake pre-learning (Reading and some activities) for all units in the course. Students are required to undertake such reading/ activities before attending specific classes. Students need to allocate between 4-8 hours of pre-learning per unit.  The total pre- learning amount for the course is 100 hours.
• Minimum age required to undertake the course: 18 years
• Students must undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test prior to enrolment.  To gain entry into this course, student must have been determined as having the appropriate LLN capability

Outcome

Once you have completed all the required units of competency you will receive a certificate for the qualification RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction – Plant Operations.
