What we love about construction training is that it gives you essential skills to work in the construction industry. Because, let’s face it, some skills you learn in other tertiary education institutions simply aren’t essential, right?
Like learning how to write poetry about encouraging social justice for rare species of South American gnats, or how to paint art that depicts anxiety in household furniture… we’re not trying to say that those things aren’t important (*cough* yes we are), it’s just that learning how to construct buildings and roads is slightly more valuable.
So, what are some of essential skills every construction worker should acquire before looking to score their first job? Let’s ask the team at Construction Training International:
Dogging and rigging
Dogging and rigging are two absolutely essential skills that every construction professional should acquire before stepping into their first role. Up to a massive 80% of workers on the construction site hold their dogging and rigging licences, making it one of the most in-demand tickets to hold in construction.
A dogman drives and directs cranes on construction and mining sites. They make sure that each load to be carried by the crane is safe by checking its lifting capacity. They also use tag lines to attach other lifting devices to hoisting equipment. Rigging is the act of moving, securing or putting down a load, while using the appropriate mechanical shifting equipment. It also involves erecting and dismantling cranes and hoists. Both skills are taught at Construction Training International.
Forklift
Getting qualified to drive a forklift is a vital skill on the construction site, and it also makes you feel like a total boss when you tell your mates you’ve got a forklift licence. Forklift licences are also super handy to have in warehouse roles and other industries, too. At Construction Training International, we offer fast and affordable forklift training.
Scaffolding
According to WorkSafe Victoria, a scaffolder is someone who has a licence to:
“erect, alter or dismantle any scaffold from which a person or object could fall 4 metres from the working platform.” It’s one of the most essential skills on a construction site, as most sites use scaffolds on a daily basis. Construction Training International offers all three levels (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) of scaffolding licence.
All of these skills are essential to the construction industry. If you’re thinking about taking a dogging or rigging course, getting your scaffolding licence or your forklift licence, we can encourage you all the way! Construction Training International offers world class training facilities with expert trainers at affordable course rates. Start your career in construction with Construction Training International!
